Tooth Whitening is the use of bleaching agents to lighten the color of teeth that have not responded sufficiently to professional cleaning. Tooth discoloration occurs for a variety of reasons:

Surface stains due to lifestyle (smoking, coffee, tea & red wine)
Age
Poor oral hygiene
Certain medications
It is important to note however that not everyone is suitable for tooth whitening. Factors contributing to this are:

Tooth sensitivity
Defective or absent tooth enamel
Gum disease
Presence of dentures
Dental implants
Crowns/Veneers or fillings
Pregnancy or Breast feeding
At Maroondah Dental Care we offer our patients three types of tooth whitening:

Crowns, Bridges & Implants
Crowns, Bridges & Implants

Crowns and Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist or prosthodontist. Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or ‘’cap’’ a damaged tooth or cover an implant.
The development of dental implants has revolutionized dental healthcare and restored the smiles of people all over the world.
Dental implants are developed from medical grade Titanium which is placed in your jawbone to become substitute for a missing tooth root and a solid foundation to which a crown, bridge, a full or partial denture may be secured.

Veneers & Bonding
Veneers & Bonding

Dental Veneers
Dental Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are custom made to fit over teeth, providing a natural attractive look. They can be used to fix chipped, stained, misaligned, worn down, uneven or abnormally spaced teeth. The two most common materials used in dental veneers are composite resin and porcelain. Both types can be fabricated by a dental technician in a laboratory and are bonded to the patient’s teeth in a dental clinic. Dental veneers are bonded to the teeth with a resin cement. Porcelain material is brittle; however, when it is firmly bonded to the tooth it can become very strong and durable.

Advantage is they are highly durable and hard to stain. Disadvantage is the increased cost compared to Bonding.

Bonding
Bonding is the application of a tooth colored composite resin (plastic) to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, discolored tooth to make the teeth appear longer and perfectly matched. Bonding can be done in a single visit to

Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the last of the molar teeth. Some people don’t even have the same and for some they never erupt. If they erupt, they usually come out at the age of 17 to 24 years old. Usually, there are 4 wisdom teeth, one tooth in each corner (Quadrant) of the mouth.

Common Wisdom Teeth Issues
Usually wisdom teeth arise without any problem in many people, in some cases there is less space for their growth, in which case they are called impacted wisdom teeth. These impacted or submerged teeth may cause problems like:

Pain
Swelling
Damage or infection to the adjacent teeth
Swollen Gum
Stiff and Sore Jaw
Bad taste and Bad breath
Difficulty in opening mouth when infection gets severe and long standing.
Treatments other than removal
Using prescribed antibiotics brings about temporary relief from symptoms of pain. This however doesn’t mean the symptoms won’t come back and there are high chances of it coming back with more severity and so we don’t routinely advise antibiotic
